At least 23 people were shot and one person was killed after a Juneteenth celebration turned violent in Willowbrook, Illinois, on Sunday morning.
The shooting happened around 12:30 a.m. in the parking lot of a strip mall on Route 83 near Honeysuckle Rose Lane. Witnesses said a large group of people were gathered in the parking lot for a Juneteenth celebration when gunfire erupted.
The DuPage County Sheriff’s Office said 23 people were shot and one person was killed. The victims were taken to area hospitals, where some of them remained in critical condition as of Sunday afternoon.
