Kabul, Afghanistan (August 20, 2023) – 8 members of the “Unity and Solidarity of Afghan Women Movement” were arrested by the Taliban moments ago in Kabul. The women planned to protest in the Khairkhana Square of Kabul to demand their rights and freedoms under the Taliban regime.
The Taliban terrorists attacked the protest site at Khairkhana and detained the six women. They were taken away to an unknown location.
The arrest of the women is a clear violation of their rights to freedom of expression and assembly. It is also a sign of the Taliban’s increasing crackdown on dissent.
Kauser News Intelligence Resource has confirmed that the “Taliban was following the Afghan female protesters who received money from a European Afghan female activist to do a protest in Kabul. After the women got together in a home in Kabul at night to talk about protest management, the Taliban ambushed them.”
The sources confirmed that “this arrest was provoked and coordinated by one Afghan female activist now in Europe. This is not the first time Afghan females have become victims of civil society activists.”
The Taliban has been cracking down on dissent since returning to power in August 2021. In recent weeks, several protests have been against the Taliban, including one by women demanding their rights. The Taliban has violently responded to these protests, arresting and beating them.
The arrest of the six women is a significant setback for Afghanistan’s women’s rights movement. It is a reminder that the Taliban still threatens women’s and girls’ rights.
The “Unity and Solidarity of Afghan Women Movement” is a group of women fighting for the rights of women and girls in Afghanistan. They have been vocal in their criticism of the Taliban and their restrictions on women’s rights.
“She told them she intended to provoke the Taliban into arresting protesters there, then use those arrests to highlight the Taliban’s violations of women’s rights. It is unknown if the women who might attend such a protest in Kabul will be made aware of Ms. Maryam’s goal of bringing about their arrests.”
