The revised Afghanistan Humanitarian Response Plan (HRP) for the period June 2023-December 2023 was released by WFP on June 14, 2023 It is a coordinated effort by the United Nations and its partners to address the dire humanitarian situation in Afghanistan. The plan focuses on the needs of 28.8 million people, including 5 million women, 11.9 million children, and 1.8 million people with disabilities.
The HRP identifies several challenges that Afghanistan is currently facing. These challenges include a severe drought that has resulted in food and water shortages, a protracted conflict leading to the displacement of millions of people, and a weak economy that has made it difficult for individuals to meet their basic needs.
To address these challenges, the HRP outlines various interventions that will be implemented. These interventions include providing food assistance to combat food insecurity, delivering water and sanitation services to communities lacking access to clean water, offering healthcare services to those in need of medical care, providing education services to out-of-school children, and establishing protection services to support those at risk of violence, abuse, and exploitation.
The HRP emphasizes the importance of raising $2.26 billion to fund these life-saving interventions. It serves as a call to action for the international community to support Afghanistan and its vulnerable population. By providing the necessary resources and assistance outlined in the plan, the hope is to alleviate the suffering of the Afghan people and address their immediate humanitarian needs.
