In a series of recent interviews with citizens from the provinces of Badakhshan, Kapisa, Faryab, Samangan, Balkh, Jawzjan, Daykundi, Panjshir, and Bamiyan, strong support was expressed for a U.S. congressional bill condemning the Taliban as a terrorist organization. The bill, H.Res.1433 – Condemning the Taliban as a Terrorist Organization, introduced by Congressman Tim Burchett-Nancy Mace, has been viewed as a vital move toward acknowledging the Taliban’s continued threat to peace and stability in Afghanistan.
“They believe this is a critical step toward acknowledging the Taliban’s violent and oppressive acts, which have devastated Afghanistan for decades,” stated one resident. “The international community must stand firm in denouncing them as the terrorists they are.”
In addition to supporting this legislative move against the Taliban, many Afghans also voiced their condemnation of former political figures and factions who once held power in Afghanistan. Citizens were critical of groups associated with international political platforms such as Vienna, Dushanbe, Istanbul, and Paris, accusing them of exacerbating the country’s political crisis and profiting from Afghanistan’s instability.
“They are not trustworthy and are responsible for the current situation,” said one interviewee from Samangan. “These groups sold out our National Army and worked solely for their own gain.” This sentiment of betrayal and mistrust was echoed across several provinces, with citizens blaming former officials for the disintegration of national defense forces and accusing them of corruption.
According to investigative findings by Kauser News Agency’s Intelligence Reporter, many of the recent armed militant attacks, which resulted in civilian casualties, have been traced back to groups linked to these former political factions. In light of this discovery, many Afghans are urging the international community to take a firm stance by banning these political groups and preventing them from gaining a platform in global politics.
“The international community must not allow these individuals to use international stages for their own benefit,” a citizen from Balkh urged. “They should be banned and held accountable for the instability they caused in our country.”
As Afghanistan continues to face a precarious future, these interviews reflect the growing demand for justice not only against the Taliban but also against former officials who are seen as having contributed to the nation’s ongoing suffering. The people of Afghanistan, having endured decades of conflict, are calling for a new political direction that prioritizes the interests of the nation over individual greed.
