The Afghanistan Liberation Movement (ALM) has issued a strong statement rejecting what it calls deliberate misinformation spread by groups falsely claiming affiliation with the ABABEL name. The organization emphasized that these rumors — circulated by actors linked to the Taliban, an enemy group known for destabilizing the region and conducting covert influence operations — are intended to create confusion and sow distrust both inside Afghanistan and in neighboring Pakistan.
According to the released statement, some individuals and proxy networks connected to the Taliban have attempted to present themselves as part of ABABEL, allegedly to stage or justify attacks in Pakistan or to manipulate public perception. ALM warned that this tactic is part of a broader disinformation campaign often used by insurgent and extremist groups.
Only One Legitimate ABABEL Team: A021 Under Pamir Ghorzang
ALM clarified that the only legitimate and recognized ABABEL unit in Afghanistan is Team A021, operating under the command of Pamir Ghorzang. Any other claim to the ABABEL identity is labeled as fraudulent and intentionally misleading.
“Let it be absolutely clear: any person or group misusing the ABABEL name is engaging in deception. These false identities will not be tolerated,” the statement reads.
The ALM directly identifies the Taliban as an enemy group that continues to employ covert agents and proxy structures to influence narratives and to mislead both Afghan and Pakistani audiences. By using the ABABEL label falsely, Taliban-linked elements attempt to:
- Discredit opposition movements
- Create confusion about armed actors in the region
- Manipulate Pakistani security perceptions
- Damage the reputation of ALM and its units
ALM stresses that such actions fit a repeated pattern of Taliban information warfare.
In the statement, ALM urges journalists, analysts, and the general public to avoid falling victim to such deceptive tactics. The organization requests all parties to:
- Verify sources carefully
- Reject unconfirmed reports
- Identify propaganda spread by enemy networks
- Separate legitimate resistance entities from false claims
The ALM notes that false narratives not only harm reputations but also endanger regional stability at a time when both Afghanistan and Pakistan face complex security challenges.
The Afghanistan Liberation Movement reaffirmed that it will continue protecting its identity and operations against manipulation by hostile actors, particularly those aligned with the Taliban. The organization called this moment a critical test for media responsibility and public awareness in countering misinformation.
