An anonymous source informed the Kauser News Agency that a young Afghan migrant girl on 09/02/2023 attempted suicide due to the relevant authorities’ lack of progress in her case. The girl is in a stable condition and is being cared for in one of the city’s hospitals in Islamabad.
According to the source, the girl had registered her case with the relevant authorities over two years ago and has not received any news of her resettlement since then. The source added that the girl’s family has faced significant economic challenges in Pakistan over the past two years. They had been waiting for news of resettlement from the authorities but had not received any updates.
Ultimately, this unidentified girl resorted to such desperation to end her life due to these dire circumstances. Fortunately, her family members found her in time and transferred her to the nearest hospital, and her condition now appears to be improving.
This is the second case in recent weeks of an Afghan girl attempting suicide in Islamabad due to the lack of progress in her case by the relevant authorities. Last week, another young girl also ended her life by jumping from the fifth floor of a building.
These cases highlight the urgent need for the international community to step up its efforts to help Afghan refugees seeking resettlement. The long wait for resettlement can be incredibly stressful and frustrating, and it is clear that some people are reaching breaking point.
