Since January 27, the resettlement agency in California has ceased operations. This agency was responsible for assisting Afghan Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) holders and Afghan refugees. A presidential executive order halted federal funding for refugee services. As a result, over 1,000 Afghan SIV holders and refugees have been left without support. More than 20 families have become homeless.
In response to this urgent crisis, the Afghan community has stepped up to fill the gap. A newly formed initiative is Bridging Communities Organization. It is dedicated to providing crucial services to Afghan refugees. The group also aids SIV holders in need. The organization operates on a peer-to-peer support model, offering assistance from Afghans to Afghans.
Services Offered
Bridging Communities is committed to helping refugees adjust to life in the United States by offering:
- Household Essentials – Providing basic home necessities to families in need.

- Transportation Services – Ensuring access to essential services and job opportunities.
- Free Translation Services – Bridging the language gap for new arrivals.

These services will soon be available to Afghan SIV’s holders and refugees across California.
Community-Driven Support
“We are accepting donations and support for Afghan refugees and SIV’s holders who need your help, seven days a week.”
“Together, we can rebuild lives and restore hope for Afghan families in California”.
The Board Members and Volunteers of Bridging Communities strongly believe that even without government-funded resettlement agencies, local communities can provide meaningful support to refugees for over 90 days—helping them transition into a stable life.
A Call for Donations and Support
Bridging Communities urges individuals, businesses, and community groups to contribute to this cause. Every effort counts whether it’s a house donation, furniture, financial aid, or volunteer time. This ensures that Afghan refugees and SIV’s holders get the help they need.
