Two years ago, the Taliban took control of Afghanistan, and in the years since, they have imposed a brutal regime that has denied basic human rights to the Afghan people.
For women and girls, the situation is particularly dire. The Taliban has banned girls from attending school past the sixth grade, and women are required to wear the burqa in public and are not allowed to leave their homes without a male chaperone. They have also been banned from working in most jobs outside the home.
In addition to the restrictions on women’s rights, the Taliban has also cracked down on freedom of speech and freedom of the press. Journalists have been arrested and imprisoned, and media outlets have been shut down. Music has been banned, and public executions have been carried out.
The Taliban’s rule in Afghanistan is a regression to the dark ages. It is a regime that is based on fear and oppression, and it has no place in the 21st century.
Dr. Patoni Teichmann, Head of the European Organisation for Integration e.V. in Berlin, calls for a united protest against the Taliban’s oppressive rule in Afghanistan. Girls are denied education, while boys are indoctrinated with extremist ideologies through jihadi books, posing a global threat. Women suffer under gender apartheid, and freedom of speech and press are silenced. Urgent action is needed to pressure the Taliban, demand respect for human rights, and support an inclusive government. Providing humanitarian assistance is crucial for rebuilding Afghanistan.
