A pregnant female teacher was killed in Kunduz province on Monday, August 15, by unidentified individuals who cut her nose, ear, and tongue.
The woman, who has been identified as Mahdiyeh, was 28 years old and was teaching at a private school in the stability center of Imam Sahib district. She was in her eighth month of pregnancy and her child also did not survive.
According to local sources, the unknown individuals entered Mahdiyeh’s home in broad daylight and carried out the brutal murder. The motive for the killing is unclear.
The Taliban’s security command in Kunduz province has confirmed the killing of Mahdiyeh but he denied that she was a teacher or pregnant. The Taliban spokesperson said that Mahdiyeh was not a teacher and was killed by unidentified individuals using sharp objects.
The killing of Mahdiyeh has sparked outrage in Kunduz province and across Afghanistan.
This is the latest in a series of attacks on women in Afghanistan. In recent months, there have been a number of reports of women being killed, assaulted, or threatened for speaking out against the Taliban or for working outside the home.
