The political and social environment on Afghan social media has been ignited following controversial remarks and actions linked to Hamid Shah Abdali, a known

supporter of the Taliban, and an intelligence officer named Shaheen.
According to multiple observers and Afghan TikTokers, Hamid Shah Abdali recently arrived in Afghanistan under full security protection reportedly provided by the Taliban’s intelligence wing. His visit has raised sharp questions as he was seen insulting other Afghan ethnic groups and national identities, behavior that many Afghans view as divisive and deeply damaging to national unity.
The controversy escalated when Shaheen, a Taliban intelligence figure who is said to be backing Abdali, made inflammatory comments during a TikTok livestream on the channel “Memtik.” Shaheen repeated three times his statement:

“I am going to change Panjshir’s name to Pashtun Dara.”
This declaration quickly spread across Afghan social media, triggering outrage from citizens across different provinces and communities. For many, the remark is not only an insult to Panjshir but also a clear sign of ethnic favoritism and an attempt to erase historical and cultural identities within Afghanistan.
The statement sparked widespread condemnation among Afghan TikTokers and commentators, with users accusing the Taliban of hypocrisy—claiming that while the group often speaks about justice and equality, their actions and rhetoric appear to encourage racism and ethnic division.
Social activists argue that the provision of state security to Hamid Shah Abdali—someone openly making derogatory statements about fellow Afghans—shows institutional bias within Taliban structures.
Political analysts stress that this incident highlights the growing gap between Taliban officials’ rhetoric and their actions. The question being raised repeatedly is:
- Why is the Taliban Intelligence Agency providing official protection to individuals engaged in ethnic insults and divisive rhetoric?
The Afghan public is demanding an explanation, with some calling for formal investigation into the conduct of Shaheen and those facilitating Abdali’s visit.
This incident underscores a broader fear among Afghan communities: that ethnic tensions may be intentionally provoked or allowed to escalate under the Taliban’s rule. The heated social media reaction suggests that such rhetoric could have dangerous consequences for Afghanistan’s already fragile social fabric.
