The National Resistance Council for the Salvation of Afghanistan NRC, which is an anti-Taliban movement founded by former Mujahedeen Leaders who are in Exile in Turkey issued a statement on July 29, 2023, calling on the United States to abandon the talks and to instead support the Afghan people in their struggle for freedom and democracy.
The NRC’s statement said that the talks would only serve to legitimize the Taliban’s illegitimate rule.
According to the National Resistance Council for the Salvation of Afghanistan Statement “Taliban is a terrorist organization that has committed countless atrocities against the Afghan people, the statement said. The Taliban has no interest in peace or reconciliation,” it said. “They only want to consolidate their power and impose their extremist ideology on the Afghan people.”
The NRC called on the international community to stand with the Afghan people in their struggle. The international community must not abandon Afghanistan to the Taliban, the statement said. “We must continue to provide humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people and we must support the Afghan resistance in its fight for freedom.”
The upcoming talks between the United States and the Taliban are seen as a crucial opportunity to end the ongoing conflict in Afghanistan. However, the NRC and other Afghan opposition groups have expressed concerns that the talks will only serve to legitimize the Taliban’s rule and will not lead to a genuine peace process.
The outcome of the upcoming talks is uncertain, ‘’the NRC’s announcement is a clear sign that the Afghan opposition is not going to give up its fight for freedom without a fight.’’
