Assistant Secretary Geoffrey R. Pyatt of the Department of State Bureau of Energy Resources (ENR) will be traveling to Abuja, Nigeria from June 18 to June 20. The purpose of his visit is to emphasize U.S. involvement in Nigeria’s transition to clean energy and demonstrate continued support for reforms and decarbonization in the country’s traditional energy sector.
During his time in Abuja, Assistant Secretary Pyatt will engage in bilateral meetings with Nigerian government officials. These discussions will likely focus on collaborative efforts to promote clean energy initiatives and explore opportunities for further cooperation between the United States and Nigeria in the energy sector.
Additionally, Assistant Secretary Pyatt will participate in a roundtable session with energy companies associated with the American Business Council. This interaction aims to facilitate dialogue between American businesses and Nigerian stakeholders and foster partnerships that promote sustainable and clean energy solutions.
Furthermore, Assistant Secretary Pyatt will take part in a panel discussion involving representatives from both the private and public sectors. The panel will explore strategies to accelerate the development of Nigeria’s power sector, with a particular emphasis on the Clean Energy Demand Initiative (CEDI). CEDI serves as a mechanism to encourage corporate investment in clean energy, supporting Nigeria’s economic growth while advancing sustainable practices.
